Can Stem Cells be Used to heal bones?

By July 25, 2019October 14th, 2019Uncategorized

If you’ve been following along, you know the ailments stem cells have the potential to heal.

Whether these things be damaged cartilage, tendons, and ligaments or maybe alzheimers, dementia and anti-aging. The applications are extremely broad.

However, one question that comes up from time to time is “Can stem cell heal broken bones?”

When a bone is fractured, or breaks it can take quite some time to heal effectively.

Due to your body’s own healing process, your bones will become much stronger once the healing is done.

Is it possible to speed up this process though, and can stem cells do it?

Researchers at a lab in Los Angeles found that after testing a therapy on laboratory animals, the bones were triggered to regrow their own tissue.

So what is this method of stem cell treatment?

It involves a collagen mix made up of genes that induce bone growth and implanting them into stem cells.

This treatment works much like other stem cell treatments.

They’re introduced into the affected area so they are activated and start the regeneration process.

Unlike bone grafts and surgeries to fix the area, this is much less invasive as stem cells normally are.

As progress in this area stands, stem cells cannot set a bone, if there’s too much damage you will likely need to undergo surgery.

But for those less serious situations?

Stem cells very well could be an option for you.

The Los Angeles researchers found that these animal fractures healed in just eight weeks after the procedure.

The best part? The bone regrowth was just as strong as a surgical bone graft.

It’s believed when it comes to fractures that are unable to heal, stem cells could potentially be used to grow more bone.

As always, these results will need to be reproduced and tested again but at this moment the results look quite promising.
